"...the charismatic Dark Prince of the lounge scene"-- Andrew Kiraly, Las Vegas City Life
Lon Bronson was born and raised in Keene, New Hampshire. Taking up the trumpet at the age of ten, early achievements included 1st chair trumpet in both the All-State and All-New England Orchestras. In 1977, on scholarship, Lon entered Boston's prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. During four years at the Conservatory, Lon studied with an eclectic array of musical legends including Jaki Byard, Robert Nagel and George Russell.
In 1981 Lon graduated with a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude. For the next two years, he played professionally with several Boston bands, touring extensively throughout the United States and Canada. In 1983, Lon assumed his first Musical Directorship in Honolulu, Hawaii. This led to a tour with American Hawaii Cruises as lead trumpet player for the S.S. Constitution. In 1984, Lon was Musical Director in Boston as well as at the Tropicana Hotel, Atlantic City.
Since 1985, Lon has been based in Las Vegas. He has performed with Dionne Warwick, The 4 Tops, Elton John, Gladys Knight, Don Henley, David Foster, The Temptations, Bobby Vinton, Gloria Estefan, Frankie Valli, and Wayne Newton among others. Over the years, he has been involved as Musical Director, Arranger, Musician's Contractor, Producer, Technical Director and Sound Consultant for shows in Atlantic City, Boston, Connecticut, Tokyo, Aruba and Las Vegas.
In 1990, Lon formed his own 12 piece band, The Lon Bronson All-Star R&B, Rock & Soul Revue, to perform in concert at the Riviera Hotel's new 300 seat Concert Lounge. The Band performed 1 to 2 nights weekly for 14 years; thus holding the record for the longest running band on the Las Vegas Strip. From May 2004 - October 2005, the Band headlined at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, in the showroom opened by Frank Sinatra.
Since inception, The Lon Bronson All-Star Band has received much notoriety for both their outstanding level of musicianship as well as the incredible list of guest artists who "sit in" with the band whenever they're in town. Highlights from this list includes: Tower of Power, Skunk Baxter, Blood Sweat and Tears, Kevin Eubanks, Taylor Dane, Joe Walsh, BareNaked Ladies, Drew Carey, Penn Jillette and the cast of HBO's The Sopranos.
Lon and the Band are no strangers to the small screen and have been featured on both cable and network shows. In 1997 Lon and the All-Star Band were featured on HBO's comedy/variety special The Mr. Vegas All Night Party Starring Drew Carey. As Musical Director for the show, Lon arranged, composed and coordinated the music for both his own ensemble and featured guest stars. Drew, long time supporter of the band, invited the All-Stars to perform at each of his seven end of season wrap parties for the ABC hit TV program The Drew Carey Show. At the 100th episode extravaganza, the band headlined with Joe Walsh.
In the fall of 1998, Lon became Musical Director and Band Leader for Comedy Central's Viva Variety's entire 3rd television season. Lon enjoyed featured dialogue on almost every episode and retained star billing in the opening credits for the off the wall cult TV variety hit. During this season Lon composed, orchestrated, and arranged music for all of the guest stars including Whoopi Goldberg, Charles Durning, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and Shelley Long. Lon composed the theme song for the Friars Club Roast of Drew Carey, which airs annually on Comedy Central. Lon also directed and performed with the band for the nationally televised roast.
Lon and his All-Star Band were also featured on national TV in the pilot for The Ron White Show, which aired on the WB in April of 2005. Lon was Musical Director/Conductor for the entire project composing all the featured original music. In November 2005, Lon and the Band were once again on national TV, providing live music for the star studded two hour TBS special Earth to America.
